Introduction
To commence planning for the NEA, I've decided to focus on the stereotypes and other links based on the county of Essex. I'm briefed that I am required to base it on a defined geographical region, therefore a place like Essex would be perfect for the choice. The unhealthy-eating, almost American population commonly order takeaways. This makes it a prime location for advertisements of a food company.
Essex is probably one of the most definable counties in the United Kingdom. With stereotypes ranging from fake tan to foul language, it's quite unique in what is a comparatively "posh" country.
Stereotypes/Cultures associated with the county
-Typically, the people are extremely self conscious of image.
-Foul or shortened language, or of course the overuse of "like" or "Oh my God". Dialect in Essex varies a lot from the rest of the UK, much like how London is very unique in its language/accents used.
-Class is usually between working or middle class, with some lucky people reaching upper class.
-A new theme popping up thanks to the social media age is that more and more people are expressing themselves in ways different to the stereotype, acting as a counter-stereotype while also showing the true personalities of individuals.
-Lots of makeup used by each gender, with much of their cosmetics being fake, as well as fake eyelashes, tan and hair.
-Stereotypically, many are not academically-focused
Nota Bene - Many of the stereotypes originate from the reality TV show "The Only Way Is Essex", which objectifies the people who live in the county as people who are stereotypically unintelligent, and focus on looks.
